Police Protest at Beyonce’s Concert in Houston; Fans React; ‘Shame on You!’

And the United States police finally made good their threats.

 

According to Pitchfork, while Beyonce performed at the NRG Stadium in her hometown of Houston, Texas, a group of police men gathered a mile from the venue, and shone their blue lights in silent protest against Bey’s hit single, ‘Formation.’

“Some of her performances we believe to be anti-police,” one of the officers, Tony Ragsdale, told the press afterwards, echoing the complaints from police in the United States when the singer dropped the controversial song in February

Recall that ‘Formation‘ upset a lot of American conservatives who accused the award winning singer of challenging and preaching violence against the police. Also, the Miami police, as a way of standing against the singer said they would boycott her Formation tour in the city.

However, Beyonce denied preaching anti-police through her songs. Here’s what she said in an interview with ELLE:

“I mean, I’m an artist and I think the most powerful art is usually misunderstood. But anyone who perceives my message as anti-police is completely mistaken. I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of officers who sacrifice themselves to keep us safe. But let’s be clear: I am against police brutality and injustice. Those are two separate things. If celebrating my roots and culture during Black History Month made anyone uncomfortable, those feelings were there long before a video and long before me. I’m proud of what we created and I’m proud to be a part of a conversation that is pushing things forward in a positive way.”
